A Catholic order called Augustinians of the Assumption, under the Augustinian Rule, played an important role in the establishment of this college. The college campus spreads over an area of more than 170 acres. Students are offered numerous programs of study in the fields of business communication, marketing, education, environmental science, and theatre and television arts.

Assumption College's athletic teams are nicknamed the Greyhounds. The men's teams compete in sports such as baseball, basketball, football, cross country, track and field, golf, lacrosse, ice hockey, tennis, and soccer. The women's teams are involved in basketball, track and field, swimming and diving, cross country, field hockey, rowing, soccer, softball, volleyball, tennis, and lacrosse.
