Athens State University, also referred to as ASU, is situated in Athens, Alabama, United States. It was founded in the year 1822 and originally called Athens Female Academy. ASU became a university in 1998. Students can choose from various areas of study including accounting, elementary education, biology, mathematics, and religion. Online degree programs are also available for outstation students. ASU is organized into three degree-granting colleges, which are:
The official mascot of ASU’s sports teams is the Bear. Students participate in sports such as table tennis and volleyball. ASU is home to many student clubs and organizations including the Art Club, Math and Computer Science Club, and Accounting Club.
