Overview of Baker University
Established in 1858 as the first four-year college in the state of Kansas, Baker University has a main campus made up of 21 buildings sitting on a 26-acre tract in Baldwin City, Kansas. The School of Professional and Graduate Studies is centered in Overland Park, a suburb of Kansas City, and the School of Nursing is located in Topeka. The School of Professional and Graduate Studies (SPGS) serves working adults at small campuses in Kansas and Missouri. Baker University is affiliated with the United Methodist Church and is named for distinguished scholar and bishop Osmon Cleander Baker.

Areas of Study
Students at Baker have the opportunity to earn an Associates of Arts in Business Administration, a Bachelor of Business Administration, a Bachelor of Science in Management or Accounting, a Master of Science in Management, a Master of Business Administration, a Master of Liberal Arts, or a Master of Arts in Education degree. The School of Nursing offers a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
Baker University Selectivity
In most cases, freshman applicants meeting two of the following three criteria will be admitted: An ACT composite of 18 or above, a high school GPA of at least 2.75, a high school class ranking of 50% or better. Prospective students must submit a completed application form, a recommendation form from a guidance counselor or teacher, an official high school transcript, and test scores from either the American College Testing Program (ACT) or the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT).
Baker University Faculty Quality
All Baker courses are taught by professors, not teaching assistants. Average class size is about 20 students and student-faculty ratio is 12:1. More than two thirds of the Baker faculty have terminal degrees in their fields, and most faculty members have advanced degrees. Baker professors stay involved with their students long after graduation and often become lifelong mentors and friends.
Baker University Student Body
There are over 3,000 students enrolled in the University, with about two-thirds of that number comprised of undergraduates. Baker attracts the serious student who relishes challenge in the classroom but also enjoys participating in the multitude of extracurricular activities available to him or her.
Baker University Student Life
The University has five residence halls which provide comfortable housing for freshmen and upperclass students. After the freshman year, students may choose to live in one of Baker's eight fraternity and sorority houses. About 78% of Baker students live in college-owned, operated, or affiliated housing. There is a wealth of extracurricular activities available to students, including an active athletics program.
