Bemidji State University, also known as BSU, is a public state university located in Bemidji, Minnesota. It is a unit of Minnesota State Colleges and Universities (MnSCU). BSU was established in 1919 as Bemidji State Normal School and today the university enrolls more than 4,500 students, representing over 40 American states and more than 35 countries. The university is recognized for its programs and conferences in writing. It also hosts the annual Minnesota Northwoods Writers Conference. BSU is organized into the following academic divisions:
BSU’s sports teams are nicknamed the Beavers and they compete in the NCAA Division II. The sports teams are members of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.
