Overview of Berdan Institute
The Berdan Institute was founded in September, 1976 in Wayne, New Jersey as the Berdan Institute for Medical Secretaries. The school's name was shortened to the Berdan Institute in January, 1977, when it introduced its Medical Assistants program. Two years later, the Dental Assisting Program was started. Today the Institute offers career training in seven different disciplines in the health care field and holds full accreditation from the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), the American Dental Association (ADA), and the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES). Berdan also operates a satellite campus in Union, NJ.

The Berdan Institute offers seven different certificate programs in the following health care fields: Biotechnician, Dental Assistant, Massage Therapist, Medical Assistant, Medical Office Administration, Medical Billing/ Coding, and Pharmacy Technician.

The application process is easy and can be initiated by contacting the Institute directly. Approximately 60% of all applicants are admitted.
Berdan Institute Faculty Quality
Berdan's highly-trained instructors have real-world experience, are aware of industry needs and tailor the curriculum to meet those needs. Classroom instruction is combined with hands-on experience. Graduate job placement assistance is also provided. Approximate student/faculty ratio is 15:1.
Berdan Institute Student Body
The student body is comprised of roughly 250 students, the majority of which (about 70%) report African-American or Hispanic backgrounds. Female students outnumber male students by about a 9-1 ratio, based on recent enrollment data.

Berdan's students benefit from a combination of classroom and hands-on training, with the opportunity to foster relationships through lab work and off-site externships. Located less than 20 miles from midtown Manhattan, Wayne, NJ was ranked by Money magazine as number 32 on its 2006 list of best places to live for cities with populations above 50,000.
