Bluefield State College is a public, historically black college located in Bluefield, West Virginia. It was established in 1895 as the Bluefield Colored Institute. BSC is a part of West Virginia's public education system. The college offers associate’s and bachelor’s degrees in diverse areas of study, including business, arts and sciences, teacher education, engineering technology, nursing and health science.
Bluefield State College’s athletics department sponsors several men’s and women’s sports teams, which are nicknamed the Big Blues. Its athletics teams compete in the NCAA's Division II as a member of the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference in sports like basketball, baseball, golf, volleyball, tennis and cross-country.
