Boise State University, BSU, is a public university situated near downtown Boise, the capital of Idaho. It was originally founded in 1932 as Boise Junior College by the Episcopal Church. It gained University status in 1974. The main campus of Boise state sits on 175 acres and has more than 170 buildings.
BSU offers more than 200 degrees in over 190 fields of study and enrolls more than 19,000 students every year. The university comprises eight colleges in different fields which are as follows:
Boise State's sports teams are known as the Broncos. They compete in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) and their official mascot is Buster Bronco.

The school does not offer open admission. Three quarters of students in 2007 had SAT verbal scores of at least 450. Half of math SAT scores of accepted students fell between 460 and 580.
The school has a tenure system for senior faculty.
