California Baptist University, popularly called Cal Baptist, was originally founded in 1950 as the California Baptist College. It is a private Christian liberal arts institute in Riverside, California. The campus is spread across an area of 103 acres of land. Cal Baptist's recent enrollments have been more than 3,000 students.

The athletics teams of California Baptist University are nicknamed the Lancers. The men’s and women’s teams participate in golf, soccer, baseball, basketball, swimming and diving, water polo, volleyball, wrestling, softball, and tennis.
The U.S. News and World Report of 1998 placed Cal Baptist among the top five regional liberal arts institutes for faculty-student ratio. The 2006 edition of U.S. News and World Report ranked the university among the top 60 in its "Universities–Master's (West)" category.
