California University of Pennsylvania, popularly referred to as Cal U, was founded in 1852 as a public university. The main campus spans over 90 acres of land and with an additional 98 acre for a recreational complex. The university enrolls over 6,000 students in its undergraduate and post graduate programs.

Cal U's athletic teams go by the nickname Vulcans, with the mascot being Blaze. The official colors are red and black. The sports department includes the volleyball, soccer, basketball, tennis and baseball teams, along with the ice hockey and softball teams. Cal U boasts of four national championships in basketball, softball and ice hockey. The university’s football team also won three straight PSAC championships.
