Canisius College, established in 1870, is a private Catholic college located in the Delaware Park district of Buffalo, New York. It was founded by the members of the Society of Jesus. The college offers enrollment to more than 3,000 undergraduates and over 1,000 postgraduate students every year. The campus is spread across 58 acres of land and houses over 30 buildings. Through these schools, Canisius College offers more than 70 minors, majors and special programs of study. It is particularly well known for its finance program.
The college’s sports teams are nicknamed the Golden Griffins. It sponsors more than 10 men’s and women’s teams in sports of baseball, basketball, lacrosse, cross country, ice hockey, swimming and diving, golf, volleyball, softball and soccer. The Golden Griffins have won a number of Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference titles in softball, lacrosse and baseball.
Canisius is located in a large city, in Buffalo, NY. The school is officially a Roman Catholic school. Canisius is a private, not-for-profit institution. Degree levels at the school top out at the Post-Master's certificate.
One of the good things about Canisius is its wide range of programs leading to degrees. Students at the school often study media and education and teaching.
The admissions department at Canisius does not accept all those who apply. Most students' verbal SAT scores were in the range of 490 to 590 in 2007. A quarter of students admitted in 2007 scored 610 or higher on the math SAT. It's not unusual for students to find their classmates include those from other parts of the country.
The school's tenure system is geared toward rewarding and keeping the most valuable professors. By paying its faculty better than most schools, Canisius tries to attract and retain a high quality teaching staff.
