Overview of Chic University of Cosmetology
Chic University of Cosmetology is a Michigan institution which prepares its students for careers in the beauty industry. Founded in 1961, the University is divided into three campuses, all located within the state. Two of the campus locations lie within the city of Grand Rapids (the Grand Rapids campus and the Standale campus). The other is located in the city of Portage. Chic is part of the Empire Education Group, a large national network of schools, which boasts a 70-year tradition of excellence in cosmetology education.

Areas of Study
The University offers two comprehensive career training programs. The Cosmetology Program prepares students for careers as stylists, makeup artists, color technicians, and salon owners or managers. Topics covered include cutting and styling techniques, hair cleansing, color and texture services, basic skin care, business development, and retail training. The 1600-hour program is offered at all three campus locations.
Chic also offers a program in Educator Training. This is a 600-hour program which covers educational techniques, curriculum development, classroom management, use of instructional aids, and administration. The Educator Training Program is offered only at the Grand Rapids and Portage campuses.

As a commuter school, Chic offers ample free parking at all three of its campuses. The Grand Rapids main campus, located near the I-96 Expressway, is within walking distance of public transportation. The Standale site, also in Grand Rapids, is situated is in a strip mall close to two major highways and easily accessible to public transportation. The Portage campus is conveniently located on the city's Constitution Boulevard.
