Chicago State University, sometimes referred to as CSU, is a state university founded in 1867. There are over 6,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students enrolled in this university. Apart from distance learning and teacher certification programs, CSU offers a wide array of courses in arts, sciences, technology, education, criminal justice, healthcare, music and business management studies. There are more than 30 different undergraduate degree programs, and a number of master degrees provided by the university.
CSU sports teams are called the Cougars and the official colors are evergreen and white. The CSU wrestling and basketball team have won a number of national championships over the years.
The Chicago State University has several well known alumnus with names like Grammy award-winner Kanye West; Dr. Margaret Burroughs, a noted author; Shondra Harris, the first female president of Uribe, Jamaica; restaurateur David Blackmon; and many famous athletes.
