Harry S Truman College, also referred to as the Truman College, began in 1956 as an unnamed "evening college". It was only in 1976 that the college moved its location, and was christened the Harry S. Truman College. With a yearly enrollment of more than 23,000 students, it is currently the largest of the City Colleges of Chicago.

Truman College offers Associate's degrees in arts, science, applied science, teaching and fine arts. The college also has one of the most successful 2-year nursing programs as well as a biotechnology program. Additionally, there are several adult education, child development and continuing education programs that are offered by this college.
