Founded in 1847, CUNY City College of New York or CCNY is an all-inclusive teaching, research, and service institution, dedicated to accessibility and quality in undergraduate and graduate education. It offers over 150 undergraduate and graduate degrees and programs in different fields of study like education, social sciences, the humanities, science, biomedical education and engineering. It also offers over 12 doctoral programs.
The sports teams of CCNY are nicknamed the Beavers. They participate in various sports like Baseball, Volleyball, Basketball, Cross Country, Soccer, Tennis and more. The Beavers have won more than 45 CUNYAC championships since 1966.
2007 marked the centennial of the opening of The City College of New York’s campus on Hamilton Heights in Harlem.

The school is known for its programs in engineering, fine arts, education and teaching, and architecture and planning.
City College is selective and does not offer open admission. One sign of prestige is that the school only let in 47% of those who applied in 2007. Three quarters of students in 2007 had SAT verbal scores of at least 410. Half of math SAT scores of accepted students fell between 440 and 590.
The school has a tenure system for senior faculty. The full-time faculty at City College is well-paid, which often goes with faculty quality.
There are 14,392 students at the school (as of 2007). City College has a large minority student population.
The school values student athletics, and belongs to the City University of New York Athletic Conference.
City College is a relative bargain, with lower tuition and fees than most schools offering similar degrees.
