Hostos Community College of The City University of New York (CUNY) is a community college under the City University of New York system. It is located in the Bronx of New York City. The College is named in the honor of Eugenio María de Hostos, a Puerto Rican writer, educator, and patriot. It was founded by an act of the Board of Higher Education in 1968 to meet the demands of the Hispanic/ Puerto Rican community and Hostos was the nation’s first bilingual higher education institution. Several courses are offered in Spanish and the college also offers extensive English and ESL training to the students.
Hostos College hosts several athletics, sports and recreation programs; it fields many men’s and women’s sports teams.
