Overview of DeVry University

DeVry University (pronounced duh-VRY, to rhyme with “eye”) is actually a network of career-centric schools with dozens of locations in the United States and Canada. Dr. Hermann DeVry established the university bearing his name over 75 years ago in 1931 in Chicago and since then it has grown into one of the largest post-secondary institutions in the country. DeVry University locations are in or near many major cities across the U.S. and Canada (where it is goes by the name of the DeVry Institute of Technology).

DeVry University is an accredited university as granted by The Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, an accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

Areas of Study

DeVry offers an extensive array of business-related courses, with a pronounced emphasis on systems management, information technology and applied technological skills. With more than a dozen undergraduate majors, several graduate-level degree programs and double-digit graduate certificates available, its degrees come in all shapes and sizes – including, full-time, part-time, night and online variants.

But many of its programs and much of its curriculum are structured to allow students to pursue their degrees online, where the bulk of its clientele – working people with families who want to upgrade careers or enhance an existing skill – find it easier to get at in the midst of busy lives.

The faculty is comprised primarily of professionals in their fields, with real-world experience in the business community, practicing the things that at DeVry they’ve come to teach.

Student Body

Students at DeVry University tend to be very career-oriented, attending the University to develop skills in specific areas. While there are full-time students at the school, many students are pursuing degrees while working as well.
