Eastern Michigan University is a comprehensive, co-educational public university located in Ypsilanti, Michigan. It was originally founded as Michigan State Normal School in 1849 and became Michigan State Normal College in 1899. It was renamed Eastern Michigan University in 1959.
EMU's site comprises an academic and athletic campus that is spread across 800 acres. There are more than 120 buildings in the campus. EMU consist of five colleges: Arts & Sciences, Business, Education, Health & Human Services, Technology and a Graduate School.
Eastern Michigan University athletic teams are nicknamed the Eagles. Some of the notable alumni of EMU are Thomas Galasso, an American Film Actor; Keith Krygielski, an American scientist; and Allen Fazio, the CIO and Vice President of Disneyland
