Eastern New Mexico University, also referred to as ENMU or Eastern, has its main campus in Portales, Roosevelt County, New Mexico. This university was legislated in the year 1927 and opened in 1934. There are two branches of ENMU offering degrees to students at Roswell and Ruidoso. The male athletic teams of the university are named the Greyhounds and the female teams are called the Zias. The male students participate in sports such as basketball, football, soccer, rodeo and cross country, while the female students play sports like softball, basketball, volleyball, soccer and rodeo.
