Eastern New Mexico University, also known as ENMU or Eastern, was legislated in 1927 and opened in 1934. This public state university has its main campus in Portales, Roosevelt County, New Mexico, and other campuses in Ruidoso and Roswell. ENMU Roswell is a 2-year branch that was established in 1958. The campus covers 241 acres of land on the former Walker Air Force Base.

ENMU Roswell offers a variety of programs in different areas of study and offers bachelor’s and master’s degrees in liberal arts, career and technical education, health, and business and science. Transfer certificates, adult education, and distance learning courses are also available to the students.

ENMU Roswell sponsors a number of intramural sports teams. The men’s teams of ENMU are known as the Greyhounds, while the women’s teams are called the Zias. They participate in basketball, football, softball, volleyball, relay, bench press, and racquetball.
