Eastern Washington University, established in 1882, is a public state university that offers enrollment to over 10,000 students. The main campus of EWU is situated in Cheney with branch campuses in Washington and Spokane. The university expands over 300 acres of land, and offers masters degrees, graduate certificates and doctoral programs to its students.

EWU's athletic mascot is the Eagle. The college sponsors intercollegiate sports both for men and women. The athletics teams of the university participates in Big Sky Conference. AFL players such as DeNique Ford and Isaiah Trufant, and NFL player Kurt Schulz are few notable alumni of the institution.
