Edison College, a part of Florida Community Colleges System, was established as a public community college in 1962. Its main campus is located in Fort Myers, and has branch campuses in Collier and Charlotte counties. The university enrolls more than 15,000 students. The main campus of the university, located on 140 acres of land, offers 2-year associates degrees, Bachelor of Applied Science certificates, and other degree programs.

The University offers a Golf Course Operation Program, which is designed to help students become successful golf course supervisors. This program enables students to learn different issues related to golf course management. Michael D. Reynolds, a famous astronomer, and Fuzzy Zoeller of the Professional Golfers Association Tour are notable alumni of the university.
