Elizabeth City State University, also referred to as ECSU, is located in Elizabeth City, North Carolina, United States. This is a historically black university founded in the year 1891. The North Carolina General Assembly played a vital role in its establishment. It gained university status in the year 1969. ECSU is organized into four degree-granting schools, which are:
Elizabeth City State University's athletic teams are better known as the Vikings. The men's teams participate in cross country, track and field, basketball, baseball, golf, and football. The women's teams compete in bowling, basketball, track and field, cross country, softball, tennis, and volleyball.
