Florida International University is a public university situated in Miami, Florida. The university was established in 1965, and occupies around 575 acres of land in Florida. FIU has 16 schools and colleges that offer more than 200 degree programs and 280 majors. The university has more than 35,000 students, and nearly 2,000 full-time teachers at present.
The athletics teams of the university are called the Golden Panthers, and the official colors are gold and blue. Roary the Panther is the mascot of FIU. The college has men's and women's volleyball and basketball teams and a men's baseball team. FIU has more than 100,000 alumni worldwide.

The school is known for its programs in hospitality and business and management.
Florida International does not offer open admission. The school admitted just 44% of applicants in 2007-2008. Three quarters of students in 2007-2008 had SAT verbal scores of at least 520. Half of math SAT scores of accepted students fell between 510 and 590.
The school has a tenure system for senior faculty. The full-time faculty at Florida International is well-paid, which often goes with faculty quality.
