Florida Memorial University was established as the Florida Baptist Institute in Live Oak, Florida, in 1879. The Florida Baptist Academy that was established in 1882, became the Florida Normal and Industrial Institute and merged with the Florida Baptist Institute in 1941. The name of this institute changed a couple of times, and it became the Florida Memorial College in 1963. The institute received university status in 2004. Florida Memorial University is now located in Miami Gardens, Florida.

Florida Memorial University offers a large number of undergraduate and graduate degree programs through the following academic schools:

The sports teams of Florida Memorial University are members of the Florida Sun Conference. Nicknamed the Lions, the teams participate in volleyball, basketball, baseball, track, and cross country.
