Fort Lewis College is located in Durango, Colorado, and is a member of the Council of Public Liberal Arts Colleges. The college was established in 1911 with the abandonment of the US Army post Fort Lewis. This college enrolls more than 3,000 students each year and offers its students academic majors, minors and certificates in various study areas including art, business administration and mountain studies.
The athletic teams in the college are known as the Skyhawks. The women of the college participate in sports such as basketball, golf, softball, volleyball, soccer, lacrosse and cross country, while the men are involved in sports including football, basketball, soccer, cross country and golf. The students publish a weekly newspaper called the Independent Newspaper on campus and also operate a radio station on campus called KDUR Radio.
The main campus of Fort Lewis is in Durango, CO (a town not particularly near any major cities). The school is a public school. Fort Lewis offers degrees up to the Bachelor's degree.
