Overview of Heald College

Heald College was founded in San Francisco, California in 1863 by Edward Payson Heald. As the first business college in the western United States, Heald forged an educational approach focusing on practical hands-on learning. As the years passed and the needs of the workplace changed, Heald's curriculum expanded to include the fields of technology and healthcare. The College's reach also grew; there are now 11 campus locations populating the states of California, Oregon and Hawaii. Heald today offers associate's degrees, diplomas, and certificates in over 25 fields of study.

Areas of Study

Heald offers a variety of degree, diploma, and certificate programs in the fields of healthcare, business, and technology. There are seven program choices in healthcare-related areas, nine in business disciplines, and ten in the technology realm. Program availability varies by campus location. The types of programs and their durations are as follows:

  • Associate in Applied Science Degrees: 18 - 24 months
  • Associate of Arts degrees: 6 - 9 months
  • Short-term diplomas: 12 - 16 months
  • Certifications: 6 - 12 months

Heald College Admissions

The enrollment process begins with an interview with an admissions advisor, followed by a completed application and entrance placement assessment. Requirements for admission include a high school diploma or GED equivalent.

Heald's faculty consists of high-caliber instructors possessing both academic and real-world experience. Faculty members teach skills that are practical and relevant to the future careers of their students.

Heald's enrollment varies by campus. Student populations at the 11 campus sites range from a low of about 250 to a high of nearly 1,000 students.

Heald College Student Life

Heald College does not offer housing; however, the vast majority of its campuses offer free and plentiful parking. Most campuses are also easily accessible to public transportation and/or major highways. The original San Francisco site houses a 60,000-square-foot campus which features fully networked computers and labs.
