Illinois Institute of Technology, also known as IIT, is a private Ph.D.-granting university located in Chicago, Illinois, United States. It was founded in 1940 by the merger of Armour Institute of Technology (established in 1893) and Lewis Institute (established in 1895). The main campus is spread across an area of 103 acres. IIT offers a wide variety of degrees and programs in diverse fields of study. It is organized into the following academic divisions:
IIT's sports teams compete in the NAIA Division I Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference. The teams participate in basketball, soccer, baseball, swimming and diving. They are nicknamed the Scarlet Hawks.
