Indian River Community college has been renamed Indian River State College by the college's board of trustees, effective July 1, 2008. Established in 1959, IRSC is a state college based in Fort Pierce, Florida. It has branch campuses in Okeechobee, St. Lucie West in Port St. Lucie, Stuart and Vero Beach.

IRSC offers a wide variety of programs and degrees in diverse areas of study. The institution also offers additional educational programs such as Technical Certificates and Applied Technology Diplomas.

The college’s official mascot is the Pioneer. It has several athletic teams participating in various sports like basketball, baseball, softball, volleyball and swimming and diving. The Indian River swimming team has won 32 straight NJCAA swimming championships.
