JDCC was established in 1964 and was named after the president of the Confederate States of America, Jefferson Davis. The college also has a campus at Atmore. Academic, technical, nursing, adult education, general education, community, and industrial programs are offered at the college.
JDCC is a member of the National Junior Collegiate Athletic Association. The athletics teams of the college are nicknamed as Warhawks.
