Overview of LeTourneau University
LeTourneau University (LETU) was founded in 1946 as LeTourneau Technical Institute. In 1961 the school became LeTourneau College, and in 1989 LeTourneau University, an accredited nondenominational Christian university which offered two- and four-year degree programs in engineering, technology, business, the liberal arts, aeronautical science, education, and the sciences; plus master's degree programs in business. In that same year, the university began expanding into offering programs for working adults in evening and weekend classes. The LEAP program (LeTourneau Education for Adult Professionals) features a format with classes comprised of the same students meeting weekly for six to eight weeks per course staying together through degree completion with students automatically enrolled in successive classes in the same location with different professors. Many other universities have adopted this same format to reach working adults. LEAP classes are offered online and at educational centers in the Texas cities of Tyler, Dallas, Bedford, Houston and Austin.
