Louisville Technical Institute

Overview of Louisville Technical Institute

Started by an engineer more than 45 years ago, Louisville Technical Institute has been preparing students for successful careers in their chosen professions. The school has grown from its initial handful of students to hundreds with several programs to chose from in technology and design.

Louisville Technical Institute is part of the Sullivan University System, a small family of career schools that includes Sullivan University and Louisville Technical Institute – all based in Kentucky.

Points of Distinction

  • Financial aid to those who qualify
  • Hands-on technical training
  • Monday-Thursday school week

Areas of Study

In addition to programs in a variety of computer-related fields, the school offers interior design. Certificate, Diploma, Associate of Science, and Bachelor of Science are offered; the particular award conferred by the school is program dependent. See the program listings below for more details. The Diploma and Certificate programs can be completed in nine months; the Associate of Science programs can be completed in 16-24 months.

Louisville Technical Institute Admissions and Financial Aid

Gaining acceptance to the school is relatively simple but there are some requirements which must be met. As a rule, prospective students need a high school diploma or GED. An interview needs to be completed with an admissions representative although accommodations can be made for students outside of the Louisville area who cannot visit the school in person. An entrance exam is also given to each applicant to help ensure he or she has sufficient competence to take part in the program.

There are no application deadlines but classes are filled on a first come-first served basis.

Louisville Technical Institute participates in Federal aid programs, Kentucky CAP grants and all applicable veteran’s educational aid programs. Of course, students must qualify to receive assistance. Since finding a source of funds is key to attendance, the school helps applicants through the process.

Louisville Technical Institute Faculty Quality

Many of the school’s faculty members have double-digit years of combine industry and teaching experience. Many hold advanced degrees and/or professional certifications as well.

Louisville Technical Institute Student Body

As of 2005, there were around 600 enrolled students at the school, with men making up about two thirds of the overall student body. However, each program may have its own unique gender make-up. About one in ten students were African-American at the time of the survey.

Louisville Technical Institute Student Life

While school-sponsored housing is available, it is limited and generally reserved for students coming from beyond commuting distance.
