The Maine Maritime Academy was officially created on March 21, 1941. This nautical training institute and public, postsecondary college is located on a 35-acre campus in Castine, Maine. It was placed on the list of the nation's top baccalaureate colleges by the U.S. News & World Report in 2009.

The athletics teams of the Maine Maritime Academy are known as the Mariners. MMA is a member of the North Atlantic Conference in the National Collegiate Athletic Association’s Division III, and the New England Football Conference.
