Marquette University, also known as MU, is a private, coeducational, Jesuit, Roman Catholic university, located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. It was founded by the Society of Jesus in 1881 and is one of the member institutions of the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities. Marquette is ranked among the top 100 National Universities in the U.S. News and World Report's "America's Best Colleges 2009."
MU confers a wide variety of degrees and certificates to its students. The following colleges and schools fall under it:
The sports teams of MU are nicknamed the "Golden Eagles". They are a member of Division I of the NCAA, and compete in the Big East Conference.

The range of program offerings available from Marquette is especially impressive compared to its number of students. The school is known for its programs in media.
Marquette does not offer open admission. Three quarters of students in 2007 had SAT verbal scores of at least 540. Half of math SAT scores of accepted students fell between 550 and 660.
