The Missouri State University - West Plains is a branch campus of the Missouri State University which was previously known as the Southwest Missouri State University. The current name was given in the year 2005. The Missouri State University - West Plains is a 2-year public institute situated in West Plains, Missouri. It was established as the West Plains Residence Center in 1963. It came to be known as the West Plains Campus of Southwest Missouri State University in 1977.

The Missouri State University - West Plains offers both part-time and full-time courses to the students. Students are awarded associate's, bachelor's and master's degrees in the fields of arts, applied science, general business, counseling, and science.

The athletics teams of the Missouri State University - West Plains are known as the Grizzlies. The students participate in various sports including basketball, golf, and volleyball. The Grizzlies are members of the NJCAA Region 16.
