National University was established in 1971 as an accredited, private university. This university offers a wide variety of degree programs in arts and humanities, sciences, psychology, media and communication, healthcare, engineering and technology, teaching, general education, accounting, management, and marketing. There are also online education and extended learning programs.

The university has 28 regional campuses in the state of California, and one in Henderson, Nevada. The courses are taught in one college and 5 schools, namely:
