Overview of Neumont University
Neumont University, located in Salt Lake City, Utah, was founded in 2002 with the goal of pioneering a more effective way of learning and a better way to prepare people for careers in software development. At its outset, the school actively solicited the collaboration of large software firms such as IBM, Microsoft, and Unisys to create a project-based curriculum. Since that time, other companies have joined in sponsoring enterprise projects for student teams to work on with the company. Neumont's unique approach to learning is designed to develop the student's ability to create, theorize, and adapt quickly in a team-work environment.
Points of Distinction
Areas of Study
Neumont offers three principal degree programs. The Bachelor of Science in Computer Science (BSCS) is an intensive degree program that most students complete in two years. The program is designed to provide graduates with a strong foundation in technical skills, an understanding of the business environment, and an ability to communicate and function well as members of teams. The Master of Computer Science (MCS) degree program, designed with flexibility in mind, can be completed in either one or two years. Neumont also offers an MBA program, which is unique in that it emphasizes the integration of business needs with technological capabilities and addresses those types of challenges typical of technology-based businesses, such as risk management, technology selection, and life-cycle compression.
Neumont University Admissions
Neumont's admissions process is straightforward and simple. Applicants will need to complete an online application and provide proof of academic performance, including academic transcripts and record of standardized test scores (ACT and/or SAT). After receipt of this material, an admissions representative will contact the applicant with status information. Candidates are evaluated based on academic potential, technical knowledge, and level of motivation.
Neumont University Faculty Quality
Neumont's faculty is representative of some of the industry's most distinguished members. Instructors teach courses that cover advanced training in modeling, architecture, and business processes.
Neumont University Student Body
Students who enroll at Neumont represent 45 states and almost a dozen international countries. Some attend Neumont directly from high school, while others have been in the workforce or other educational environments before attending Neumont. Student population has consistently grown in the University's few years of existence. In 2006, the school had a student body of more than 300 students and an approximate 9:1 male:female ratio.
Neumont University Student Life
The University coordinates affordable shared housing (typically 4 students per apartment) for its students through local apartment complexes. The apartments are located close to the campus, as well as near shopping and other activities. Roommates are assigned and rent is on an individual basis, which means a student is never liable for a roommate's portion of the rent. Some students choose independent housing instead, and in those cases contracts are strictly between the student and the housing provider. Neumont provides a social setting that accommodates the interests of its students. The school sponsors student coding competitions, career fairs, and multiple options for student employment.
