Northwestern University is a private research university situated in Evanston, Illinois and downtown Chicago. The main campus of Northwestern University comprises 240 acres of land in Evanston along the shores of Lake Michigan. The athletics teams of NU are nicknamed the Wildcats. Northwestern University has a number of intercollegiate athletics teams. It also consists of a number of club sports. The school has a greater breadth of degree programs (majors) than most colleges of its size. The range of program offerings available from Northwestern University is especially impressive compared to its number of students. The school is known for its programs in music, media, drama and performing arts, and business and management.
Admission at Northwestern University is selective, not open to all who apply. Getting into the school is challenging; it only admitted 27% of those who applied in 2007-2008. Three quarters of students in 2007-2008 had SAT verbal scores of at least 670. Half of math SAT scores of accepted students fell between 680 and 770.
