Oakwood College

Oakwood College came to be known as Oakwood University in 2008. It was founded in 1896 as the Oakwood Industrial School. Established by the Seventh-day Adventist Church, it became the Oakwood Manual Training School in 1904, and was renamed Oakwood Junior College in 1917. In 1943, the name was changed to Oakwood College. The current university campus sits on 1,185 acres in Huntsville, Alabama.

Oakwood University offers more than 40 undergraduate degree programs in the fields of pastoral studies, business and information systems, history, music, nursing, math, and computer science, among others. Students can also opt for the Master of Arts degree in pastoral studies.

Oakwood University's student population includes representatives from around 40 states and 30 countries worldwide. The students participate in sports like basketball and football. The men's basketball team is known as the Ambassadors, while the women's team is called the Lady Ambassadors. They are members of the United States Collegiate Athletic Association, and the men's basketball team won the National Championship in 2008.
