Overview

The Ohio and Illinois Centers for Broadcasting teaches all aspects of broadcasting through an intensive, hands-on program instructed by the industry's top professionals. Founded in 1986, the school has the following five locations: Cleveland, Columbus, and Cincinnati, Ohio; Chicago, Illinois; and Denver, Colorado. The Ohio and Illinois Centers for Broadcasting provides students with excellent training at each of their fully-equipped radio and television studios. Upon completion of their program, students receive a diploma and are prepared for entry-level positions in the broadcasting industry.

Students at the Ohio and Illinois Centers for Broadcasting are taught by an instructional staff consisting of some of the industry's top professionals. Internship programs at local television and radio studios are also offered to interested students, allowing them to work with industry professionals on a daily basis. The Ohio and Illinois Centers for Broadcasting are accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges of Technology (ACCSCT), and are members of the National Association for Broadcasters.

Areas of Study

The Ohio and Illinois Centers for Broadcasting offers a program to prepare individuals for entry-level employment in the broadcasting industry. This intensive program combines classroom instruction with hands-on training in professionally equipped audio and video studios. Some of the skills taught include studio terms, proficiency with consoles and recording/playback decks, video camera operations, news and sports writing, voice development, and industry trends, to name a few. Studio lab work will be critiqued by professional broadcast announcers and producers. Upon completion of the program, students are awarded a diploma in Radio and TV Broadcasting.

The Ohio and Illinois Centers for Broadcasting offers a selection of class times to meet the individual needs of students. Class sizes vary, with a maximum of 30 students to be enrolled for any one class.

Ohio and Illinois Centers for Broadcasting Selectivity

Students do not need any prior experience in the broadcasting industry, but must be a high school graduate or GED equivalent. In addition, each applicant must successfully pass a live audition, and receives a written evaluation measuring the applicant's vocal skills relative to articulation, breathing, reading skills, and voice quality and strength. Skills are measured on a scale of one to 10, with applicants needing to achieve an average of seven to be admitted to the school. Interested students should call the school to arrange a tour and meeting with the School Director.

Faculty

The faculty at the Ohio and Illinois Centers for Broadcasting are all industry broadcast professionals with many years of experience, including local on-air radio and television personalities.

Student Life

The Ohio and Illinois Centers for Broadcasting offer five convenient commuter locations for students. Campus housing is not available, but the school will assist students in finding a suitable and affordable place to live.

Students work closely together in fully-equipped television and radio studios, and the school also operates on-air Internet radio stations. Graduates in good standing are also permitted to use campus studios and equipment at no charge for up to six months from the date of their graduation.
