Oregon State University was established in 1868, and is a coeducational research university situated in Corvallis, Oregon. The university offers doctoral, graduate and undergraduate degrees. The academic programs of OSU are divided into 2 schools and 12 colleges, which are the:
The sports teams of the university are nicknamed the Beavers. Oregon State University has basketball, cross country, golf, rowing, soccer, softball, track, and volleyball teams. Linus Pauling, 1962 Nobel Peace Prize recipient; William Oefelein, NASA astronaut; Cecil D. Andrus, former Governor of Idaho; John Ensign, former U.S. Representative of Nevada; and Douglas McKay, former Governor of Oregon are among the famous alumni of the university.

The school is known for its programs in science, engineering, landscaping and horticulture, family and social work, and conservation and resource management.
Oregon State is selective and does not offer open admission. Three quarters of students in 2007 had SAT verbal scores of at least 470. Half of math SAT scores of accepted students fell between 480 and 610.
Oregon State has a tenure system for senior faculty. The full-time faculty at the school is well-paid, which often goes with faculty quality.
