Penn State Mont Alto is a Commonwealth Campus of the Pennsylvania State University. Originally founded in 1903 as the Pennsylvania State Forest Academy in Mont Alto, in 1929, it merged with the Pennsylvania State College to form the Mont Alto campus. It became a Commonwealth Campus of the university in 1963. The campus of Penn State Mont Alto, situated adjacent to the Michaux State Forest, occupies 93 acres in Mont Alto, Pennsylvania.
Penn State Mont Alto offers associate's degrees in forest technology, nursing, occupational therapy, and information sciences. Students can also enroll for bachelor's degree programs in business, English, letters, arts, and sciences, human development and family studies, and nursing. In addition, the university offers opportunities for students to complete a degree program at any of the other campuses.
The sports teams of Penn State Mont Alto, known as the Nittany Lions, compete in varsity sports like basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, softball, tennis, and volleyball.
