Pierpont Community and Technical College was founded in 1974 and named in honor of Francis Pierpont, a native of Fairmont. This college, originally a part of Fairmont State University, was known as Fairmont State Community and Technical College. Although Pierpont Community and Technical College continues to share the campus and services of Fairmont State University, both institutions have separated. Pierpont Community and Technical College provides associate's degrees and certificates through the following schools operating under it:

  • School of Health Careers
  • School of Human Services

Pierpont Community and Technical College is a member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). Students clubs and organizations of the college include the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, the Baptist Campus Ministry, the College Republicans, and Students in Free Enterprise.
