Pierpont Community and Technical College was founded in 1974 and named in honor of Francis Pierpont, a native of Fairmont. This college, originally a part of Fairmont State University, was known as Fairmont State Community and Technical College. Although Pierpont Community and Technical College continues to share the campus and services of Fairmont State University, both institutions have separated.
