Overview of Pierre’s School of Cosmetology

Pierre’s School of Cosmetology is northern New England's premier provider of post-secondary occupational cosmetology programs. Founded in 1958, Pierre's started as a single school in Portland, Maine, and has since grown to a progressive institution encompassing five campuses across the state of Maine. In addition to Portland, campus sites can be found in Bangor, Caribou, Sanford, and Waterville. Pierre's is a member of Empire Education Group, a national leader in cosmetology education.

Areas of Study

There are five programs offered by Pierre's, although not all of them are available at all five campuses. The programs, their durations, and campuses which offer them are listed below:

  • Cosmetology: 1500-hours; Available at all campuses.
  • Nail Technology: 200-hours; Available at all campuses.
  • Esthetics: 600-hours; Available at Portland campus.
  • Educator Training: 1000-hours; Available at all campuses.
  • Massage Therapy: 600-hours; Available at Bangor and Portland campuses.

Pierre’s School of Cosmetology Admissions

Career Planning Specialists are available to assist those wishing to apply to the school. Online forms are available on the web and all an applicant needs to do to start the admissions process is to fill one out. High school graduates (or those with a GED equivalency) who are 16 or older are eligible for admission.

Pierre’s School of Cosmetology Faculty Quality

Pierre's faculty is qualified and trained not only in their fields but also in classroom management. Teachers are licensed in all facets of cosmetology, nail artistry, or esthetics.

Pierre’s School of Cosmetology Student Body

Student enrollment varies by campus. The main campus in Portland has a student body in excess of 400. Women outnumber men by a ratio of about 20-to-1.

Pierre’s School of Cosmetology Student Life

All five campus locations are easily accessible to one or more major highways. Most of them offer free parking and direct access to some form of public transportation. Pierre's does not offer campus housing, as all of its students commute to school.
