The Pima Medical Institute was established by Richard and JoAnn Luebke in January, 1972. It was originally located in Tucson, Arizona. Over the years, PMI has established 10 branch campuses across New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado, Washington, California, and Nevada.

Pima Medical Institute-Tucson offers associate's degrees in applied science, and occupational science. A number of vocational certificates and online programs are also available. Courses are offered in the fields of nursing, occupational therapy, radiography, respiratory therapy, pharmacy technology, medical assistance and veterinary technology, among others.

Elgible students are offered financial aid through Federal Pell grants, Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants, Parent Loans, subsidized and unsubsidized Stafford loans, and Leveraging Educational Assistance Partnership funds. The institute also provides job placement assistance to its graduates.
