Overview of South Texas Vocational Technical Institute

South Texas Vocational Technical Institute (STVT), founded in 1973, is a post-secondary institution providing short-term specialized career training in the fast-growing Texas market. Operating at three Texas campuses (Brownsville, McAllen, and Weslaco), STVT offers programs in the fields of allied health, business, childcare, computer, legal, and English as a Second Language. STVT's goal is to enable students to reach competency levels to qualify for employment and/or advancement in existing or potential career fields in as little as six to twelve months.

South Texas Vocational Technical Institute Admissions

STVT admits, as regular students, any person having a high school diploma from an accredited high school or a GED equivalent. Prior to acceptance, an applicant must be interviewed by an admissions representative; complete an enrollment agreement; and submit any other information that may be required. Applicants should contact the school or one of its admissions representatives.

There are roughly 700 students enrolled across the three campus locations. Women comprise about 85% of the total student population.

South Texas Vocational Technical Institute Center Student Life

STVT does not have campus housing, but the school will help students arrange housing through the various apartment locator and apartment management services in the area. The Career Services office provides assistance in preparation of resumes, cover letters, and interviewing skills; and also disseminates information on job availability and provides part-time job placement assistance while students are attending school.
