Southeastern Oklahoma State University, also referred to as SOSU, Southeastern or SE, is located in Durant, Oklahoma. Established in the year 1909, SOSU was originally known as Southeastern State Normal School. SOSU gained university status in 1974. The athletic teams of SOSU are referred to as the Savage Storm. The students of the university participate in sports including softball, cross country, basketball, baseball, tennis and football. The university is a member of the NCAA Division II Lone Star Conference in the North Division. Among the notable alumni of the university are Brett Butler, a professional baseball player; Reba McEntire, actress and country music singer; and Bill Anoatubby, Governor of Chickasaw Nation.
