Southern Arkansas University, also known as SAU, is a public, four-year institution located in Magnolia, Arkansas, United Staes. It was established in 1909 as the Third District Agricultural School. In 1925, the name was changed to the Agricultural and Mechanical College, Third District. The institute was again renamed to Southern State College in 1951. It recived its present name on July 9, 1976. SAU enrolls over 2,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students every year.

The athletics teams of Southern Arkansas University are known as the Muleriders. The men’s and women’s teams participate in football, baseball, basketball, golf, track & field, cross country, volleyball, tennis, and softball.
