Southern University and A&M College is located in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The concept of Southern University was put forward by P. B. S. Pinchback, T. T. Allain, and Henry Demas as an institution "for the education of persons of color" at the Louisiana State Constitutional Convention (1879). The university was officially established in 1881. Southern University and A&M College offers an array of degrees and programs through its various academic divisions which include:
