Overview of Southwest Florida College
Established over 30 years ago as Lehigh Business College in Fort Myers, Southwest Florida College today offers career-style education in disciplines with favorable job potential. The school obtained Junior College status in the mid 90s and now enjoys Senior College status, with the ability to offer a bachelor’s degree. Also, the college now has a second campus in Tampa.
Southwest Florida College is owned by Compass Rose Foundation, Inc, a non-profit organization.

The college is accredited to award diploma and/or degrees in programs that fall into several general categories: Allied Health, Business, Computer Aided Design and Drafting, Early Childhood Education, Graphic Design, Legal/Criminal Justice, Information Technology (IT) and Interior Design. The particular degree offered depends on the particular program that the student decides upon.
Southwest Florida College Admissions and Financial Aid
Admissions are open and generally designed to include all who meet the school’s minimum qualifications.
Because of the school’s status with the U.S. Department of Education, qualified attendees are eligible for federal tuition assistance such as loans, grants and work/study programs. Other assistance may also be available.
Southwest Florida College Faculty Quality
Faculty members at the college are selected based on their relevant experience and education and their ability to provide the quality instruction consistent with the college’s mission.
Southwest Florida College Student Body
Based on a Department of Education report from 2005, there are about 1700 students at the college. Roughly 70% of the school’s enrollees at that time were women. The school is also racially diverse with about one-fifth of the school reporting Hispanic heritage and one-fifth being African-American.
Southwest Florida College Student Life
There is no college-sponsored housing – all students commute from the areas nearby the two campuses. Tampa and Fort Myers are growing cities providing students with ample extracurricular possibilities and thriving job markets after graduation.
