Spencerian College

Spencerian College

Overview of Spencerian College

The beginnings of Spencerian extend back more than 110 years ago when Enos Spencer founded the school as a business college in Louisville, KY. Today the school continues to focus its attention on career training young men and women, but has expanded its scope to include health care and technology. In the late 90s, Spencerian added a second campus in Lexington.

Spencerian College is part of the Sullivan College System, a small network of career schools based in Kentucky.

Areas of Study

Spencerian’s in either Lexington or Louisville have access to Allied Health programs, although not all of the specific programs are offered in each location. In addition, the Lexington campus offers Business Administration and Lexington offers Technology. The school is accredited to award Associate Degrees and Diplomas.

Spencerian College Admissions and Financial Aid

There are a few requirements for gaining acceptance to the school. In addition to a high school diploma (or the equivalent), applicants must prove they possess sufficient academic competence to handle the rigors of the program. There are multiple ways to provide this evidence: successful completing the CPAt (Career Program Assessment Test) or obtaining a certain minimum score on the ACT or SAT.

The admission process is handled on a rolling basis – there are no specific cutoffs or deadlines. However, prospective students are encouraged to apply early as classes may fill delaying the students start date.

Finding the money to pay for college can be daunting to many students but the school employs financial planning administrators to help students sort out a tuition plan. Many students qualify for one of several aid options including Pell Grants, student loans, work/study or scholarships.

Spencerian College Faculty Quality

The school’s team of instructors have the skills and experience to prepare their students for the real-world application of what they teach. For most students at the school, Fridays are available as free days without classes to catch up on or accelerate their studies. Faculty are generally available on Friday mornings to assist students on a more individual basis.

Spencerian College Student Body

There are about 1600 students at the Louisville campus where a significant majority are women. Spencerian in Lexington is somewhat smaller with about 500-600 student and there’s a majority of men. However, as programs change and expand, these numbers and proportions can vary significantly.

Spencerian College Student Life

Spencerian does offer student housing, a relatively uncommon feature for career-oriented colleges.
